Besides being fit, there are numerous other benefits that come from an active life through playing sports or regular exercise and here, we share some of these benefits and tell you why you need to embrace a fitness lifestyle if you’re not already doing so.
The most common benefit from having an active life is, of course, being physically fit. By playing sports or exercising regularly, your strength and endurance increases, you can maintain a healthy weight, improve your cardiovascular health (no more panting after climbing a staircase), and you also significantly reduce the risk of chronic health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.

Participating in sporting activities can also help to reduce stress and anxiety. Physical exercise has been shown to reduce formation of cortisol (also known as the stress hormone) and helps to increase production of endorphins which are natural pain killers and mood elevators and can help the body to relax especially after a long day at work. Exercise and sports also help to improve cognitive and memory functions which help to keep you mentally alert and smart.
When performed properly, physical exercise transforms the body and improves posture thereby boosting self-esteem. You develop a positive image of your body, you are more aware of your physical capabilities, and you become more comfortable in your own skin, and this increases your self-confidence.
One other benefit which is often overlooked is self-discipline. An active life requires consistency and commitment to doing ‘tough’ things and regular physical exercise helps to develop the ability to stick to your decisions and follow through on your commitments, and this transcends to other areas of life. Self-discipline helps to increase productivity and getting the results you’ve always desired comes easily.
Lastly, through playing group sports, you get to develop social skills that help you with interacting better with others. You also learn how to work effectively as part of a team towards achieving common goals.
